Center and Its Relation with Development

The centre of the board is the battleground where most games are won or lost. This lecture will deal with the necessity for central control in the opening and how it relates to your pieces' development, especially the Rook. You will learn how to place your Rooks to influence central squares most effectively and prepare them for active duties in front-line action.

Castle and Don't Be Greedy

One of the critical steps to safeguard your King while mobilizing your Rook is to castle. This session focuses on the price you pay for being too greedy with material or just plain lagging behind on this critical move and helps you understand the principle of timely casting. You'll learn when to cast first and how to avoid falling into those common traps which leave you in vulnerable positions.

Correct Investments – Tempo

Every move counts, especially in the opening. This course session teaches tempo and how to come up with the right moves which enhance your position without wasting time. You will learn to make "investments" in your opening play for long-term benefits, keeping your Rook and other pieces in sync with your overall strategy.

Piece action is the name of the game in the middle game. This lecture will demonstrate how you can keep your Rooks and other pieces active, participating in the battle. Attack! Pawn Story

This lesson looks at endgames where pawns are on one side, discussing how to make effective use of your Rook in support of your pawns, controlling key squares, and outmanoeuvring your opponent's King. You will practice methods for winning or drawing such positions.

King-Pawn Endgame – Pawns on Both Flanks

Endgames with pawns on both wings require a serious coordination effort on the part of your King and Rook. In this lecture, you'll learn how to conduct these most complex of all endgames where the possibility of switching sides may prove to be the decisive factor for the Rook, and how to balance the needs of pawns on both flanks while keeping the opponent under pressure.
